Your wedding day is one of the most photographed moments of your life, and your wedding suit will be remembered in those images forever. At Fino in Los Gatos, we work with grooms throughout the Bay Area who understand that a custom wedding suit is not something you can leave to the last minute. Timing is everything — and getting it right means starting the process earlier than most men expect.
The ideal timeline for ordering a bespoke wedding suit is three to four months before your wedding date. This window gives your tailor enough time to draft a pattern from scratch, source the fabric you have chosen, construct the suit through multiple stages, and complete two or more fittings with time for any final adjustments. Rushing this process is possible, but it compromises the experience and sometimes the result.
In the first month, your journey begins with a consultation at Fino's Los Gatos studio. This is where you discuss your wedding style, venue, and the look you want to achieve. You will explore fabrics — lightweight wools, linens, or cashmere blends depending on the season — and make decisions about details like lapel style, button stance, and lining. The Fino team will take over thirty individual measurements and draft a pattern unique to your body.
During months two and three, the suit takes shape. Your pattern is refined, the fabric is cut by hand, and the construction begins. A floating canvas chest piece is hand-stitched and shaped to your torso. Your first fitting happens at this stage — typically with the jacket basted together so adjustments are easy to make. This fitting is where you begin to see the garment come to life.
“During months two and three, the suit takes shape.”

In the final weeks before your wedding, the suit is completed to a high finish and you return for your second fitting. At this stage, the suit should feel close to perfect. Minor refinements are made — sleeve length, trouser break, pocket alignment — and the garment is pressed and prepared for delivery. We aim to have every custom wedding suit ready at least two weeks before the wedding, giving you time for one final check and complete peace of mind.
If your timeline is shorter, do not panic. Fino can sometimes accommodate rush orders depending on current workload and fabric availability. Contact us as early as possible if your wedding is within six weeks — we will do our best to work with your timeline while maintaining the quality that defines every bespoke suit we make. The earlier you reach out, the more options you will have.
If you have groomsmen who also need custom suits, coordinate their timelines early. Each groomsman requires individual measurements — bespoke tailoring is never one-size-fits-all — and managing a wedding party adds scheduling complexity. We recommend bringing your groomsmen into the Los Gatos studio at the same time as your first consultation so we can plan the full group alongside your suit.
Ready to start? Book a wedding consultation at Fino today and we will walk you through everything.
